Eat, Explore and Experience
Only the best make the list.
Link and Recommendations
During your stay we would love to share some recommendations for some of our favorite things to see, do and of course, eat.
Home to more than 35 wineries, Prosser is the center of Washington’s wine industry. We suggest starting with a stop at the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center. It’s a wonderful way to learn about the state’s wine industry, sample different AVA wines and maybe you’ll get lucky enough to attend one of their very informative classes and workshops. And of course no stop to Prosser is complete without stopping at the family Mercer Estates Winery!
Stock up on the best locally grown produce Saturday mornings from 8am – 12pm May through October in the Prosser City Park just blocks away from The Historic Mercer.
Events and Festivals
Stay with us during one of Prosser’s many fun filled events and festivals throughout the year.
The Princess Theatre is home to the Valley Theater troupe and hosts live events and movies. Our family renovated and restored this little 1919 gem of a theatre, then started on the Mercer Building!
The Yakima River runs all the way from Ellensburg to the west through Prosser and ends at the Columbia River in Richland. Visitors enjoy white water rafting the Ellensburg Canyon or canoeing, kayaking, or fishing all the way to Benton City.
Historical Forts and Museums
Fort Simcoe near White Swan was erected in south-central Washington Territory in 1856 as US Army fort house troops sent to “keep watch” over local Indian tribes. Prosser is also home the Benton County Historical Museum, a gem worth stopping in to see!
Take a drive up to the ‘Bluebird” in Bickleton which vies with the “Brick” in Roslyn for status as Washington’s oldest Tavern!
Brewminatti is our lovely friends downstairs who would be happy to make your eats or drinks to go. But honestly, the best thing to do is go down there and enjoy their cool space. Note the brass tacks in the floor every 3’ where Pete Beck measured goods sold by the yard in their hardware store. Like the 2nd floor, the floors are original. Awesome music most weekends. 509.786.2269. Sorry, they’re closed Sundays so grab some good grind to go for Sunday.
Horse Heaven Saloon
Horse Heaven Saloon, our classmates, are on the next block (brewery is in the back off the alley). Featuring a local western themed gastro-pub experience. Local and regional beer, local wine, spirits, farm fresh American food, entertainment and art. The Buck Off is our favored IPA!
But for a true Prosser experience stop in at Bern’s Tavern (named for the handsome gentleman, our uncle Bern Mercer who made awesome wine with Walt Clore).. full bar, pool tables, dart board, greasy burgers and old time tap beer still popular with some locals and college students .. occasional karaoke or other such music too.
